frequently asked questions

How could joining Alpha Chi Omega add to my Willamette Experience?
Joining a sorority has philanthropic, academic and social benefits. Our chapter offers a space where women can develop their leadership skills and personal interests while making genuine connections with one another. We work hard to create an inclusive environment where all goals and ambitions are respected and supported.

I have a lot of other commitments this semester, will I have the time?
Members of the Beta Chi chapter are involved in numerous activities here on campus. We place a high value on personal development and it is important that our members remain involved both in our Alpha Chi community as well as the broader Willamette community. We acknowledge that joining a sorority is a time commitment, however, we honor our members schedules with flexibility and practicality.

I’m worried about the financial aspect of joining a sorority, how does that work?
Each member is responsible for paying their dues, which fund the cost of living in the house, membership programming, and sisterhood events. Scholarships are available both through our Willamette PHC community, and our national organization. In addition, our chapter has payment plan options available that accommodate all of our members.

I’ve heard joining a sorority can separate me from my other friends?
Many of the women choosing to go through recruitment have this concern. While joining Alpha Chi Omega gives you the opportunity to become connected with a new community, many of our members still remain close friends with women who are in other sororities on campus or are unaffiliated. While fostering sisterhood is important to the sorority it is equally important to encourage our sisters to surround themselves with their friends!

I’m not sure if joining a sorority is right for me, but maybe I’d like to try it out?
This is a common sentiment for women who are curious about Greek life, but just don’t know if it’s the right choice for them. After joining Alpha Chi you are considered a “New Member” and have the opportunity to learn about our organization, our values, and our sisterhood during a “New Member period.” This period allows a new member to decline their offer of membership, if for any reason it does not work out.
